At this year's China International Investment Conference in Guangzhou, several key projects in Guangzhou's Yuexiu District can be described as "full of creativity." Among them, Guangzhou Topchain Community, created by Yangcheng Evening News, the global internet giant Tencent, and Topchain Assets Co., Ltd.'s, became the "competitive products" of key projects.
Forty-six start-up teams in six months
This year, for the China Guangzhou International Investment Annual Conference, Yuexiu District, displayed three key projects, Tencent Guangzhou Topchain "entrepreneurship space", innovation and venture financing street, as well as national copyright trade base, among which Guangzhou Topchain Community has attracted much attention. On September 8th, 2015, Yangcheng Topchain community, the startup incubator located in downtown Guangzhou, officially opened. This old newspaper building, which once carried Guangdong’s “Yangcheng Evening News” for more than 30 years, has become the nation’s first “mobile Internet ecology tree and entrepreneurial synthesis” -----Guangzhou Topchain Community, with the joint efforts of Yangcheng Evening News Group, Topchain Assets, Tencent, and 3W. This is also the first venture base established by Tencent after the State Council Prime Minister Li Keqiang proposed "entrepreneurship space" and "Internet+." Since the formal opening of the park on September 8th last year, Guangzhou Topchain Community, located in the heart of the Yuexiu District, has been developing at an astonishing rate. Liu Xin, the person in charge of Guangzhou Topchain Community Cultural Industry Development Co., Ltd., told reporters that within the short period of half year, the company had bred 46 entrepreneurial teams and attracted many small and medium-sized Internet innovation companies.
Guangzhou Topchain Community provides the city’s most successful local entrepreneurship service
In fact, there are many similar industrial parks in Guangzhou, and it is not the first and the last one. What advantages does Guangzhou Topchain Community possess in attracting entrepreneurs?
Advantage 1: Professional Guidance from masters in the venture capital community
"Guangzhou Topchain Community is not just turning an old building into a park,” said Liu Xin, not only has it attracted Tencent’s entrepreneurship space, but also 3W incubators, which are well-known in the venture capital community, to provide entrepreneurial teams with professional guidance.
Speaking of 3W, many people may have an impression. On May 7th last year, Premier Li Keqiang paid a visit to Zhongguancun Business Avenue in Beijing; the Vanilla Latte with the "Golden Circle" was the 3W coffee. From a small coffee shop for Internet startup to communicate five years ago to a large corporation with six companies and hundreds of well-known investment companies, 3W is becoming the hottest innovator in the “Internet+” era.
Advantage two: 50 million RMB 3W seed fund round investment
The CEO of 3W incubator Freda told reporters that after entering the park, the 3W will not only provide professional guidance for entrepreneurs, but the matching 3W seed fund will also provide a seed round investment of 500,000 RMB for these Internet start-up teams. This is to help start-up teams to achieve small-size test from concept to prototype and test.
Zhao Jianhai, founding partner of Haipeng Capital, who has entered Guangzhou Topchain Community, said that as to the entrepreneurial atmosphere, there is still a gap here with Beijing and Shenzhen. The key is that the Guangzhou entrepreneurial companies do not converge, and entrepreneurs are fighting alone.
Advantage III: the concentration of Internet Startups
"Currently a lot of incubators in Guangzhou have no agglomeration effect.” Zhao Jianhai frankly stated that although many incubators employ the “low rent” banner to attract entrepreneurs,In fact, the rent level is by no means a key factor in determining the life and death of a startup company. I have never heard that an enterprise fails because of the high rent of one or two thousand RMB. Only because talents cannot be found and no investment (it will fail). The creation of Guangzhou Topchain Community will at least provide a medium-sized concentration of Internet start-up companies in Guangzhou, and it really works. That is quite valuable."
In the following year, Guangzhou Topchain Community will continue to develop. According to Lai Jiayan, deputy general manager of Yangcheng Evening News Media Group Co., Ltd., currently Guangzhou Topchain Community collaborates with the Guangdong University Student Entrepreneurship Coalition to bring relevant teams in building a “start-up cloud” for the park. Grassroots entrepreneurs can work on-cloud even without a computer. As a media-led entrepreneurship space complex, in the future, Yangcheng Topchain community will integrate the media resources of Yangcheng Creative Industry Park and publish “Tianhe District Entrepreneurship Map” and “Yuexiu entrepreneurship Map” to provide communication services for entrepreneurs in Guangzhou. And through this series of innovative attempts, the transformation of the media industry is achieved.
